The Youth Soul Lab was established in 2022 as part of a cross-department collaboration led by the Chiayi City Government to transform a former homeless shelter into a youth community hub. Located in the West District of Chiayi City, Taiwan, the 1,820 m² site was redeveloped into a platform for youth activities, workshops, and collaboration. The space provides free access for young people aged 15–30, encouraging them to build social networks through community participation.
This project was designed to operate through a public–private partnership, bringing together local government, industries, organisations, and youth groups to co-design both the space and its future. It demonstrates how sustainability can be achieved through the integration of physical design and community activation, enhancing long-term value through the way people use and engage with space.
